3 Sneaky Ways to Get Your Child to Exercise

75% of children between the ages of 5 and 10 don’t get enough daily exercise.  In the day and age of computer games, TV On Demand, and Wii’s children have less incentive to go outside and get their daily dose of exercise.  During the summer months when school, gym classes, and after school sports aren’t in session children receive even less exercise.  Here are 3 sneaky ways to keep your kids exercising this summer.

  1. Get Swimming!  Playing pool games such as Marco/Polo and Categories are great ways to get your kids working their muscles and moving throughout the hot summer days.  No pool?  No problem!  Many communities have public pools open to the whole neighborhood.  Do a quick search to find one close to you.  Make sure to keep an eye on your children in the pool to avoid any accidents.
  2. Buy a trampoline!  Bouncing up and down for hours on end gets children moving in a way they don’t even realize is exercise.  Challenging each other to new tricks and seeing who can jump the highest are great ways for kids to pass the time quickly.  Make sure to go over safety guidelines with your children to prevent injury. Nets to surround trampolines can also be purchased for extra protection.
  3. Try a New Outdoor Activity!  There are countless outdoor activities (biking, rollerblading, hiking, mountain climbing, kayaking, tag, nature walks, swinging) and your family hasn’t possibly tried them all.  Get the whole family together one Sunday afternoon and try a new outdoor activity.  You’ll fit in exercise, family bonding, and a new challenge all in one swoop!

However your children choose to exercise is great.  There’s no right or wrong way to get moving and work your muscles, as long as they’re moving you’re on the right track.  Is there an exercise that your children favor?  Share it below to help inspire other readers!
